Ramblers is the only independent organisation dedicated to protecting the footpaths network nationwide in addition to other places to which the Public has a right of way or access to on foot, defending the countryside and promoting walking for all.

It has over 100,000 members within England Scotland and Wales and for administrative purposes has 57 separate Areas with over 450 local Groups.

Campaigning work

Ramblers works tirelessly to defend and promote access to walkers.
It was at the forefront of the introduction of the Countryside and Rights of Way (CROW) Act to confirm access to some open hilltops or quiet valleys . It has been to promoted coastal access throughout the UK and the Marine and Coastal Access Bill received the Royal Assent just in time to allow completion of the Wales coastal path. In 2013 this was reported as bringing £16m to the Welsh economy.
A further important success has been the recent establishment of the South Downs National Park.
